TODAY is the DEADLINE to sign up to participate in Trunk or Treat by decorating a trunk.  It’s important to have enough trunks to hold the event.  If there are not at least 25 cars signed up, Trunk or Treat will be cancelled.  Please fill out the orange insert and drop in the box today.

THIS WEEK:

Thursday, Oct. 13, 6:30 p.m.: QUARTERLY BUSINESS MEETING.  All members are urged to attend to hear updates and act on church business. Quarterly reports are on the back table.

TRUNK OR TREAT!

SAVE THE DATE: MONDAY, OCTOBER 31, 6-8 P.M.

Trunk or Treat is an alternative to Halloween, akin to a large tailgate party, where children can show off costumes and get treats by going from car to car and seeing colorfully decorated trunks in a safe, contained environment.  This is an outreach to the community led by the Word of Life team and sanctioned by the elders.  To hold this event, we need enough folks to commit to participating by decorating a trunk and providing treats for possibly 250 kids.  See today’s orange insert for guidelines.  PLEASE SIGN UP ON LIST AT BACK OF CHURCH AND RETURN ORANGE REGISTRATION FORMS TODAY.  Volunteers are needed to manage the parking lot, grill and serve hot dogs, hand out tracts, monitor a bouncy house, and more.  See Jason & Brigitte Schlosser or Meredith Fowlie if you can help in one of these areas.

THE SUNDAY VOLUNTEER SCHEDULES have gone out to everyone who helps out in the Nursery (both infant room and preschool) and Junior Church, greeters, readers, ushers and trustees.  Robin asks that you mark your calendars and keep these schedules posted in your home so that if you need to make a switch you can see the big picture of who is serving where on any Sunday for the next six months.  Let her know of any changes so the schedule will be correct in the bulletin.

A HUGE THANK YOU to NAOMI DICKINSON FOR HER HELP in setting up the master schedule and for scheduling the preschool and infant nursery helpers.  Naomi volunteers in almost every area during church AND teaches Sunday School on top of that!  She could use more help in the nursery, both in the infant room and the preschool room.  We don’t want Naomi and Chris to have to miss too many worship services.  If you are a church member who can sub for them in any area, please speak to Naomi.

YOU ARE INVITED to the annual Inspire Life Care Net Banquet Thursday, Nov. 3, 6:15 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Brunswick.  The theme is “Love Never Fails,” reflecting the heart of the Care Net ministry. The special guest speaker is Rebecca Kiessling, a family life attorney and pro-life advocate who was conceived out of a brutal rape and nearly aborted.  Dinner is complementary but this is a fund-raising event for Care Net, the ministry that is making a difference in the midcoast, serving pregnant women in crisis and advocating for life.  If you are interested in attending please speak to Barb House before Oct. 20.

PROJECT RENEW: SANCTUARY RENOVATION begins in earnest on Monday, Oct. 24 at 8:00 a.m.  The trustees need at least ten people to commit to working all day Monday and any other days of that week that they can – to remove all the pews, rip up carpeting, scrape the floor, remove fixtures, move furnishings, etc.  Lunch will be provided the week of Oct. 24-28 (a sign-up sheet is posted to help provide lunches and snacks for breaks).  Workers will also be needed to paint, help with wiring and lighting, install wainscoting, remodel the stage area and build stairs. Contact Tim Beck if you can help.

SHOEBOXES FOR SAMARITAN’S PURSE Operation Christmas Child are due by Sunday, Nov. 13.  For more information see Coordinators Tom and Cathy Wilson.

Any church members who would like to be added to the list of volunteers to greet, read Scripture, do Junior Church or help in the infant room or preschool, please contact Robin in the church office weekday mornings.  We can always use substitutes. Thank you!

MISSIONARY  NEWS:

From Wayne & Joyce Raychard, Africa Inland Mission ~

Greetings from Hollis, Maine:

We left Tanzania on 14 September and arrived the following afternoon in Orlando, Florida, where we attended an AIM conference with other AIMers on home assignment along with representatives from AIM’s new offices in Peachtree City, Georgia. … We flew to Maine on Friday Sept. 23 and were met by Bethany, Greg, Kara, their spouses, all of our grandchildren, one of my sisters, a niece and her husband, and my mom…

A major change that we anticipate as we return to the continent of Africa next year is a move to Kigali, Rwanda.  We have been invited to teach in a new four-year degree program called CLIR, the Christian Leadership Institute of Rwanda.  A number of AIM personnel are already there working in partnership with missionaries from World Venture, formerly Conservative Baptist International (the mission we worked with for 13 years in the 80s and 90s).  This is a great opportunity for us to contribute to the development of leadership for churches in East Africa as the student body will be international from the outset.  AIM’s motto is “Christ-Centered Churches Among all African Peoples.” As we have worked toward that goal among the Digo, we will continue to do so among those who come to participate in the CLIR program. We will talk with you more about this when we meet.

We look forward to seeing you soon.  Thank you for your faithfulness.

[The Raychards are scheduled to visit our church on March 18, and they ask for prayer as they visit churches between now and then.]

                                                                                                                        Wayne & Joyce
