HAPPY NEW YEAR!
QUARTERLY REPORTS should be written by board and committee chairmen and handed in to the secretary by this Wednesday, Jan. 4, for distribution next Sunday, Jan. 8. You may drop your reports in the secretary’s mailbox next to the copy machine or email them to boothbaybaptistchurch1@myfairpoint.net. Thank you.
THE QUARTERLY BUSINESS MEETING is Thursday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m., and all members are urged to attend.
THE BIBLE IN A YEAR: The Elder Board is encouraging everyone to read their Bibles systematically in a one-year reading program. On the back table is a reading schedule for the month of January. A schedule for each month will be printed and inserted the last Sunday before that month (January’s was inserted in last week’s bulletin). If you miss getting one, extras will be provided on the table in the back of the sanctuary.
EXECUTIVE BOARD / LEADERSHIP COUNCIL MEETING on Wednesday, Jan. 25 after the prayer meeting for all board and committee chairmen to coordinate and plan for the next four months. Please come with your calendars and with written notes on your board or committee’s planned activities. (Note: this meeting is not for reports on past months unless there are suggestions for improvement for next year.)
VOLUNTEER SCHEDULES HAVE BEEN REVISED. Due to changes in the volunteer pool, the master schedule has had to be revised. All who serve on Sundays in the infant and preschool nurseries, in junior church, or as greeters or Scripture readers, please take a new schedule from the back table, look it over, find your name, highlight it, and mark your calendar at home. (The ushering and trustee closing schedules have not changed.) We have tried to avoid conflicts or having people serve two weeks in a row, but some-times it has been unavoidable. If you cannot serve on the date(s) assigned, please make your own switches with other volunteers and let Robin Beck know the changes so they will be reflected correctly in the bulletin schedule. Thank you all for serving!
MISSIONARY NEWS:
From Dan and Sharon Pinkham, with JAARS in N.C. –
At this time of year it is very common to be thankful for all the things God has given us. I am very grateful as God has supplied our needs as missionaries for close to 30 years. However, as I reflect on God’s Word I realize I am not the same person I was 30 years ago. God’s Word has changed me and will continue to change me as I study and obey it with a whole heart. For that I am truly thankful to God! As we partner in Bible translation, stories surface of those who, when confronted with God’s Word in their mother tongue, respond with tender hearts. You are part of stories like these. … A translator in West Asia put it this way: “We can understand the Bible with our mind in the national language, but it’s the mother tongue that plants the Word in our hearts.”… A mother tongue translation is the place where hurts are healed, decisions are made, and lives are changed.
Praises: Your faithfulness in prayer and financial support for close to 30 years; Sharon has a steady but not overwhelming number of missionaries coming in to the lab for various medical tests; the impossible project my team was handed in late May was completed on time; many additional ministry opportunities with our local church; the doctor continues to give encouraging reports regarding my prostatitis; our boys are both enjoying married life with godly women.
Prayer: the JAARS Clinic still needs volunteer doctors, nurses and medical technicians to better serve our missionaries coming back from overseas with health issues; clarification of what to do with the aviation conversion project that is on hold waiting for the FAA to sort out legal issues; our 1998 van needs to be replaced and we need wisdom on what to do; our support continues to be very low, please pay for an increase in prayer and support partners.
